Where did they come from?…

Today: the first day of classes.  Definitely crazy.  How can so many people simple appear in Provo in only a few days?  It’s madness I tell you madness.

Well, classes look like they’re going to be a combination of hard, busy work, and easy-peasy.  I have only been to two so far, so hopefully the ones I’ve yet to visit aren’t too bad.

Oh, and what’s with this smog?

Not a carpenter…

Today I learned that I have chosen a major that suits me.  I was asked by my father to help my grandparents put a new window in their basement… it was quite the adventure.  I had never installed a window before — in fact, as I’ve never owned a house, I’ve never had to do house repairs or improvements.  While I’m sure I’ll do better when I have my own house, I learned quickly that I haven’t been naturally gifted with the skills needed to install this window.  It’s good I’m studying computer engineering instead.  Nuff said.

Brinner fail and success…

Last night I tried to make brinner with disastrous results.  Six eggs and various ingredients later, I had only produced two eggs that were almost over easy.  The first 3 eggs went the way of the garbage disposal without producing food.  The 4th went the same way after I didn’t have enough flour to complete the pancake recipe.  I had cereal in the cupboard but swore not to eat it.

Well, tonight I had better luck.  I didn’t try eggs, and to make pancakes, I bought pancake mix.  (Just add water — pretty hard to mess that up.)  I went to my other apartment to make it with my other roommates.

This is the 2nd time in about a week that I’ve brought food and made it here… with the A/C broken… maybe I should bring salads until the A/C gets fixed or winter comes.  Probably a good idea.

Propose this…

Since my recent appointment to Head Boy, there has been a general rumble in the factory.  The little orange men are restless.

I live by two mottoes:  “Keep It Simple Silly”, and “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”  Not everyone does.  Today has not been the best day at work.  Even Zupas couldn’t help today.

You could have locked the door…

No matter how good your night, you can always smile more.  After a fun night hanging out with friends and watching Juno with Sav and Midori, my night was made complete by my walking in on my roommate making out on the couch with his ex-girlfriend.  If you’re not going to lock the door, then don’t get embarrassed when I walk in.

Cheesecake…

Last night, after the day of yard selling, my cousins (cousin and wife) took me out to the Cheesecake Factory to thank me for my help in all the yarding and selling.  Two words describe this place: excellent and delicious.  I had the Burrito Grande.  So good.  The Orange Chicken, which I sampled from my cousin’s plate, will be my next choice when I return another day.  We all got desserts, and all were wonderful.  The Lemoncello was my favorite, and the Red Velvet Cheesecake was second (neither of which was what I ordered — next time though).

This morning they made waffles.  One of the things I love about them is how they have their house decorated.  They even lay out the table nice for breakfast.  Best cousins ever!

I hate yard sales…

If there is one thing I hate, it is the idea of going to someone’s house and rummaging through their junk and paying them money to take it off their hands.  I admit, some people find this exciting and like it because they can get a “good deal”.  My hat goes off to the people who can find the good yard sales and manage to come away with a prize.  I would rather buy new.

Tonight (technically yesterday now), I found something worse: people pawning off all of their crap on you when you ask them to help you in a fund-raising yard sale.  We literally have crap that even Deseret Industries would be skeptical to take.  I was in luck and found a brand new Crock-Pot and claimed it.  But I’m pretty sure that came from my cousins (the ones doing the yard sale).  Some of my favorite items were the ugly yellow nighty, the mattress cover (for when your kids pee the bed) complete with stains, the 10-year old satellite receiver guaranteed not to work, the broken dollar store measuring cups, the book that came with a Chick-a-Flick kids’ meal, and a slip I called a nighty that belonged to my cousin’s wife’s sister (who was right there – awkward).  After hours of sorting junk and trying to make things look presentable, we finally called it a night and stowed it all back in a two-car garage.  It’s a very full garage.

I don’t like yard sales, if you haven’t already caught that (but I think I’ve made that clear from the beginning).  I’ll be glad when we’re done tomorrow.  I merely hope we can raise some money.

Even though the day ended in yard sale stuff, it was a good day.  Work at the factory went alright.  Everyone has been working hard.  Well, almost everyone, but no one is surprised.  I may have to do some yelling and cursing before things get done — but I guess that’s the responsibility of being king. Being lax will get me nowhere fast.

I’ve found that work is always better when you have someone to chat with who is also at work.  I took a journey with Savitrii to some great youtube clips.  Work will also be more enjoyable because I can post about it whist I’m there.

But alas, it grows late, and I must wake in a mere four hours.  Good night world.

An excellent morning…

Today has the makings of an excellent day.  Let me list the reasons why:

  1. It’s 8:18 am and I’m already at work, making money, instead of in my bed furthering the vicious cycle of sleeping in and staying up late.
  2. I ate breakfast — usually doesn’t go hand in hand with being anywhere early for me.
  3. I woke up to a text from a beautiful girl.  Granted, she’s just a friend, but I’m still counting this one.
  4. I have a cold, open Dr. Pepper.  My father would be proud.
  5. It’s Friday.
  6. I’m going up to hang out with my cousin and his wife, and they’re just plain awesome.

The only thing that could ruin this wonderfully started day would be getting sucked into a 6 hour discussion about where to put chocolate in the warehouse.  But since that already happened this week, I think today will be ok. 🙂
